    The majority of the British public support a pay rise of more than 10% for NHS workers across the UK.

    Over half of the public also said they supported industrial action if a deal could not be reached.

    A survey undertaken by NursingNotes and Nurses United UK found that a massive 94% of the British public support a single year rise of more than 3% with over half (64%) suggesting a rise of between 10% and 15% would be appropriate.

    Over half of the public (65%) said they would support some sort of industrial action if NHS workers are not able to reach and agreement with the Government, with 47% saying they supported strike action not including the withdrawal of emergency care.

    Earlier this year NHS workers in England were offered a 3% single-year pay rise after the Department of Health and Social Care said it had accepted in full the recommendations of the NHS independent pay review bodies (NHSPRB).

    However, the same body also suggested that nursing pay no longer reflects the “realities and complexities of modern nursing”.

    The snap survey was taken online in July 2021 by over 2,300 members of the general public. Unsurprising.

    A theme across all respondents was that NHS workers have failed to be adequately recognised for their hard work during the pandemic. One respondent commented;
    “Dedicated professionals, that deserve respect. NHS staff should not be worried about finances, because of low wages, when they are doing such a stressful job.”
    Another added;
    “Without everyone who works in the NHS, including cleaners drivers etc, we would have had far more deaths during the pandemic, and they have been taken for granted by this government.”
    Responding to the results, Nurses United UK said they were unsurprised at the support by the public.

    Anthony Johnson, lead organiser for the group said;
    “Across all four nations the public have seen the pressures on our NHS and the care that nurses give. They can see what this Government and its donors refuse to see, that a restorative pay rise of over 10% is necessary to bring our NHS back to safety. They support their nurses, not this Government and it’s great to see that this support is high for whatever action, political or industrial, is necessary for our nurses to take.

    “Nurses should remember these statistics and vote to reject the measly 3% this Government is offering.
    Health unions are currently balloting their members on if to take further action following the 3% pay award.

    If we could identify those that did do the extra then fine but many didn't and I'm wouldn't want to insult those who worked so hard by rewarding them the same as those that didn't.

    It would be unfair and undervalue their great work.

    Would love for you to walk in to the local A+E and tell them that.
    If you managed to make it back out again without needing one of their beds, I’d be very surprised.

    Why penalise the masses because of a tiny minority?

    Everyone in the NHS should get a yearly rise in accordance with the rate of inflation regardless of their role, cleaners are just as important as doctors and nurses because they wouldn’t be able to operate if the place wasn’t cleaned, give all the correct pay rise yearly and we wouldn’t have to go through this nonesense again and again .

    What a strange response even suggesting our NHS staff would resort to violence.

    Many of these people worked long hours on wards and ICU units and you wouldn't acknowledge it.

    Many staff had little to do (including some friends and relatives) .

    As a regular in our hospitals I can assure you quite a lot of staff were not at all busy.

    So, just because in your eyes they weren’t ‘busy’, you don’t think they deserve a pay rise? How very patronising of you.

    The problem is they've set up 'Independent' Pay Review bodies but they are never Independent, they always come up with a low figure which the Government hide behind or say they can't afford. The same with Pensions, they can pay the rise when the pension is falling behind the Cost of Living but once they have to pay out more they start bleating.

    Not just Doctors and Nurses but also Paramedics, Radiographers, Lab Technicians and all the support staff have risked their health and lives during the pandemic, all deserve a decent rise to make up for the cuts made under Austerity.

    You do get mixed up, why don't you have a re-read and you will see I have never suggested no pay-rise for any nurses merely specific extra recognition for those at the very sharp end of the epidemic.

    That will not just be nurses of course.

    What have you got against them ?

    Are you a closet commie?

    You said this In your original post, which was a reply to a question regarding a pay rise.

    ‘If we could identify those that did do the extra then fine but many didn't and I'm wouldn't want to insult those who worked so hard by rewarding them the same as those that didn't.

    It would be unfair and undervalue their great work.’

    Any reasonable person would deduce from that, that your suggesting a pay rise for some, but not for others.
    If that’s not what you meant, I can’t be held responsible for your lack of ability in writing English.

    I did say everyone in the NHS and in accordance with the yearly rate of inflation. Independent pay review bodies probably mean another bunch of people to pay that could be done away with if they just kept up with inflation automatically. NHS staff deserve at least to keep up with the cost of living this way it wouldn’t look like a pay cut that would bring them out on strike or an extravagant pay rise. I guess…

    You are having problems aren't you, why take it out on me ?

    No, any reasonable person (which your clearly not today)

    would say I didn't want to reward them the same ie give more to those who were at the very sharp end and not as much to those that weren't.

    A bigger piece of cake if you like.

    Hope your not like this with everyone.

    You do seem to get confused rather easily, maybe it’s an age thing or your just plain thick, who knows?
    You’ve managed to contradict yourself in your last few posts.
    But do keep on, it’s quite amusing.

    There's no need to insult me because you jumped to the wrong conclusion, why not accept it apologise and move on.

    Oh dear, touched a nerve did I?
    If I thought I’d even slightly got it wrong, I’d offer you an apology.
    But seeing as you are so obviously wrong/confused/thick, you can whistle for it.
    Move on? Nah, I’m enjoying this far too much.
